Good to know
A gas dryer still uses some electricity for the drum and controls. The EPA rolls gas and electricity into one figure, so we price all of it as gas.

How we cost gas

The EPA gives one yearly figure for gas dryers: 687 kWh equivalent, which combines the gas burned and the electricity for the drum and controls. We convert it to therms (1 kWh = 3,412 Btu; 1 therm = 100,000 Btu), so 687 kWh-eq is 23.4 therms, and price it at $1.48 per therm, the U.S. average residential gas price for 2025 (EIA). The EPA does not split out the electric part, so your real cost may be a few dollars higher.
